servlet state session

I read as below

Web-based applications responsible for maintaining state, called a session, in order to associate a series of HTTP requests from a client.

Is the session they mentioned above is same as 'Session' scope or session scope is altogether different thing. Please advise.

Any links resources ideas highly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Yes it is the same. "Session" scoped objects are those objects that are stored in the Session, and hence due to the statement (in bold) that you posted means that those objects are maintained across a "series of HTTP requests from a client"
