question about laptop hinge (dv9000) OEM hinge vs Aftermarket hinge

Hi I have a DV9800 series laptop and today I went to close the screen and the hinge broke on the right side. I was going to order a new right side hinge and I was looking on ebay, and noticed I can buy a new set of right and left aftermarket hinges for $5. So I was wondering if anyone ever used aftermarket hinges, and if they are durable or not?

Or would it be worth buying OEM hinges?

I have a ThinkPad T61p (now retired) where the hinge broke on one side. I got aftermarket hinges (a pair) that were to Lenovo spec but not from Lenovo. The pair was a lot more than $5.00, but they have continued to work just fine.

$5.00 is very cheap. My guess is they must be used or of very low quality. It may be that there are so many Dell machines that someone is making them cheap.

You cannot lose, but the hinges may not last as long as you want.
