Framework or template for JavaScript Sliding Timeline?

Is there a template I can start with to develop a similiar timeline slideshow like Nat. Geo is using?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

They are using flash.
But you could do something similar with js.
Create your timeline graphics and place in a div with overflow auto - this will give you the scrolling.
jquery has a number of plugins that can do image zoom on mouse over
To change the content below then you just have to capture the image/text click

I have done a scrolling timeline before using the slider described here:

You can set the background image to be the timeline, then as each click moves it left or right the background moves to another time period.
