B&W laser printer

So, I am so sick of buying ink cartridges for our stupid printer.  Many years ago I had a B&W Laser printer and I think the toner cartridge costed $80 and printed around 5,000 pages.  I think it was a Laserjet 5P.

I bought a B&W printer last year and I think it only prints like 500 pages per $65 toner cartridge.

So, my awesome experts, what printer can I use that prints many pages per toner cartridge at a reasonable cost.

I can really only speak for the HP printers, but quite a few of the toners come in high-capacity versions so it may be better toners you are after, not necessarily the printer.

For example, the HP CE505X high capacity toner should print 6,500 pages for RRP $165, whereas the CE505A regular capacity toner should print 2,300 pages for RRP $91.

As a rule of thumb, the more money you spend on a laser printer, the cheaper the printing cost. At the same time, more expensive the printer, the more expensive the cartridge - but it will last much longer, so the per-page cost does go down.

Having said that, I'd appreciate some more details about what kind of printer you require. For example:

Do you need A4 /Letter or A3/Tabloid
How fast would you like it?
How many paper trays do you require?
Do you need duplex (double sided) printing?
Do you require networking (recommended) or will you use USB only?
Do you have a budget? If yes, how much?

   Either will work fine

Would like to stay under $300 if possible

Have a look at the Xerox range, specifically the Phaser 3320. Toner is $163 for 5000 pages, or $250 for 11000 pages. It runs 37 ppm, and comes standard with duplexing and both wired and wireless networking. Price is $399.

All those prices are from Xerox, so you should be able to get better deals - especially if you use 3rd party toner.
