merging or combining two walls

I am trying to create a floor plan for our offices.  There are cubicles to be designed.  I have drawn two of them and wanted to combine or merge (?) the shared wall.  When I try join it does not work, not sure what to do.  See the attachment, there are two images (join is what I am trying to do, join2 is a clip from the design I am working from.

Thanks in advance

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I think you should make one room and use walls to create the cubes, or rooms within.  It would work better in the context of the example you included.
