I have a latitude e5500 and it is sitting on a docking station. i have to external widescreen monitors that i have connected to the docking station. One monitor is connected to the docking station through vga and the other is connected from docking station to display port vga adapter to the monitor.

I have it set to when the laptop lid is closed it will extend the laptop desktop from external monitor 1 to external monitor 2. This works fine temporarily. I am guessing when the user restarts the laptop or powers off the monitors it loses its extended desktop settings. I am running the lates intel graphics drivers provided by Dell.

Anyone come across this before or have any suggestions?

So if they were to have the power off on the laptop, dock it (while closed) and power it up does it display to both monitors?

the last two mornings i have gotten a call from this client and they have said that they have lost the extended desktop ability. Yesterday i went over there and I updated the video card drivers. So i only assume that the user is shutting down his laptop at night and when he powers it on in the morning, it does not keep the extended desktop setting.

Can you perhaps direct connect the 2nd monitor to the docking station vs going through adapters?  Like switch it to DVI or something?

The autoswitching is usually pretty simple and you have already downloaded the updated drivers necessary.

so i believe the issue was that there were power save settings set to turn off the monitors. I disabled these settings to never goto sleep and never turn off monitor and it seems like it is sticking now.
