Archiving with Microsoft Exchange 2007

My agency has an archiving requirement. We only have 4 mailboxes that store about 200,000 messages total per month, which we save for up to 10 years. We currently run EmailXtender, which is no longer valid, and we would like to use Exchange only as an archiving solution.

My question is this:

- What is the feasibility of this, in regards to the limitations of Exchange 2007 archiving, and how can I best get over the archiving issues without purchasing expensive products? I am concerned with database sizing and folder limitations in Exchange.

Please note that these are not user mailboxes. These mailboxes simply store messages for later retrieval per customer requests. Searching body content will be key. Attachments are not a concern.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There is no archive solution in 2007, it is introduced in 2010. That also has some limitation and require premium license.

For 4 mailbox relax mailbox limit and keep data in mailbox itself. I am having 99GB mailbox running with no issues for this kind of requirement. until you don't configure in outlook everything is fine. Use PS for exporting data, when you want to do any search.

Doesn't Exchange 2007 have folder limit issues that I need to be aware of?

You  mean we have to use PowerShell to export data to do searches? We can't do searches from Outlook without issues?

Though there is a recommended limit of 20k folder. However, that would be rare, you have so many folder. You can do it via outlook too.  PS i mentioned for faster search as it is command based.
