iSeries HMC stops booting at “NET: Registered protocol family 2¿

Our HMC seems to be fried. It doesn't complete a boot always stopping at  “NET: Registered protocol family 2¿

Is it my NIC?

Can I "simply" pull the HD out of this HMC and put it in a spare ThinkCentre and make that PC an HMC?

How else can I get a console session to my LPAR'd Model 520 if my HMC won't come up?

Any help would be appreciated.

If HMC is hanging during IPL, fastest and best bet is to open a ticket with IBM.  Hanging at that point I'd say NIC is a good guess.

No idea if you can pull HDD and try to boot on different system, but I sort of doubt it.

This is an old box -- off of IBM Maintenance. Let me see if network switch is causing issue.

Error code pointed to NIC, but wiggling network cables allowed boot to complete and the HMC console code to load. Thanks!
