Cisco VLAN creating 1003 already in use?

I am trying to create VLAN 1003 but whilst trying to do so noticed that had already been taken.

When I ran a show vlan brief
I get the following results

1002 fddi-default act/unsup
1003 token-ring-default act/unsup
1004 fddinet-default act/unsup
1005 trnet-default act/unsup

I need to use VLAN 1003 as a piece of hardware I want to connect up to has this hard coded into it.

Any suggestions or ideas on how I do this

Thanks

On Catalyst switches, VLANs 1002-1005 are reserved for system use on Token Ring and FDDI networks. They can not be deleted or used for any other function.

No. It's just on the Catalyst switches. But unless you can use the VLAN on all the devices that will see the traffic, you can't use those VLANs.

Those are factory default vlans
Vlan 1, 1002-1005
You can't delete, or modify them (rename)
They come standard to support multiple platforms - Industry standard if you will.

Actually, only VLAN 1 is a "default" VLAN.  1002-1005 are only for Token Ring and FDDI support.
