can i turn on circular logging, clean up disk issue and then turn it back off

I am running out of space on log files disk

Can I turn on circular logging, do a back up, then turn circular logging back off ?

I have had an issue where my Exchange backup did not work for the last 2 weeks (unknown to me) and now my log file disk is down to 8 GB free with 80 GB of log files.

I am afraid I am going to run out of log file disk space before I get the backup working properly so I am trying to prevent a database halt/dismount.

Thoughts are appreciated !

You can enable circular logging to resolve your disk issue.  It is not recommended to have circular logging as your could lose transactions in an event of failure where you might need to recover the database and commit transaction logs.  Make the change and restart Exchange Information Store service.

You can turn on circular logging to make more free space on the drive.

To enable circular logging refer below link :

For 2007:

For 2010

For 2003

Instead on enable circular logging take exchange server backup with exchange awareness software. like ntbackup or Symantec backup. to make more free space.

We use BUEXec2012 but have a disk space issue which is why my logs are growing since I can t do a backup until disk issue resolved.

Can I turn circular logging off after my BU issue resolved ?
