Zip Code API
EE Colleagues: Can anyone point me to an API or web site that allows automated requests for ZIP codes and Canadian post codes? I want something that will allow me to give city and state information and get back the zip code or list of zip codes that serve the city. About 500 requests are all I need. Thanks and regards, ~Ray

Thanks. I think I will do this by hand - only 500 entries. But the Census data is a great idea. After all, we've already paid for it! Best to all, ~Ray
What you want is the places database http://www.census.gov/geo/maps-data/data/gazetteer2010.html and I have included the download here. The 2nd column has both the state code and zip code. The state code is the first 2 characters of the 2nd column. Then the next 5 is the zip.

Very cool, thanks! Just a little quid-pro-quo. I have discovered that you can find the general location of any ZIP code by using just the first three digits. It takes the size of the ZIP code search (for example, to call a weather app) down from 35K rows to under 1K rows! The first three digits are called the SCF. I think it stands for Sorting Central Facility. It's a little less precise than a full ZIP, but a lot faster!

I used to manage database marketing/direct mail.... SCF Sectional Center Facility. Depending on population density can cover an area about the size of 2 to 3 counties. This can give you an idea of where an scf covers. I think you can see multiple. http://maps.huge.info/zip3.htm
