Windows clients can't get internet access thru Untangle Firewall

We have a network of 30 Windows 7  computers and 1 Windows 2k8 Domain controller.  Prior to getting the Windows 2k8 Domain controller, we were using Untangle Firewall for DHCP services.   There were NO problems with internet access at that time.

When we added the Windows 2k8 server to the network, I turned on the DHCP services on the Window 2k8 server and turned off the DHCP on the Untangle firewall.    All clients were able to get IP addresses from the server, but, they couldn't get to the internet.

Tried:
1.  Turning off DNS on the Untangle firewall.
2.  Adding the Untangle Firewall as a forwarder in server DNS settings (when DNS was enabled on the Untangle).
3.  Adding the Windows 2k8 server to the DNS list on the Untangle Firewall (when DNS was enabled on the Untangle).

None of these things worked, so, had to return to using Untangle for the DHCP for the time being..

I am assuming the Server is not using DHCP. But has a static address? What are it's DNS settings on the adapter and does it get internet access?

Check your default gateway pointing to your untangle firewall IP Address. Add alternet/secondary dns server ip address your untangle firewall ip address in dhcp server dns server setting.

The server has static ip address, and its DNS on the adapter is it's own IP as recommended when server is a domain controller.

And the last question? Does it properly access the internet through untangle?

In DHCP server settings on Win2k8 server, under   ServerName>>IPv4>>ServerOptions>>006 DNS Servers,  I added the Untangle IP as the secondary DNS server and the ISP as the tertiary DNS server.     This worked.

Also added ISP's DNS servers as secondary and tertiary DNS servers on the adapters.  And, yes the Untangle was able to get to the internet even when the DHCP clients were not.

I would not recommend that solution. In an active directory domain, non AD DNS servers will cause your clients to give odd errors and authentication issues randomly. You will end up with more new problems than the ones you were trying to solve. Just a heads up.
