How convert time entered into hours

On an Excel spreadsheet I am keeping track of start time and stop time.  For example...

Start time = 8:30
Stop time - 9:23

Then in the next column I am calculating the difference which using this example would be :53

But now in the column to the right of this calculated cell I want to to convert the :53 to hours, or in this case .88

What is the formula to handle this?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

Keep 1:00 in one cell e.g. G8
You have 0:53 in other cell e.g. F9
You want 0.88 in one cell e.g. G9 then enter following formula in G9 cell

=F9/G8

It will convert minutes into hours
