BackupExec error on SQL

We have BackupExec 2010 and SQL 2008 R2.  All of a sudden we fairly regularly get the folling error:  Final Error: 0x00035F - The SQL server backup interface has reported an error.  Further details can be found in the job log.  Restarting the SQL server service or the server may correct the problem.  Final error category: Resource Errors.  V-79-57344-863.

If we try to restart the SQL service, it just hangs and we have to restart the server.  Also all SQL applications stop responding after that error until we reboot the server.

And ideas will be greatly appreciated.

It looks like this may be a Microsoft issue. There is a Symantec Technote that references a MS KB on this error: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH66447

can you post VSS writers status over here

to check vss writers run below command

vssadmin list writers..

if any of the writers in failed or waiting for compilation state then you will not get consistent backup.
