diskpart extend doesn't work

Hi Folks! I have a virtual 2003 machine which I am trying to expand. I added more space to the hard drive, and now I am trying to extend the C drive. On Disk Management, I see the space as unallocated space. So I go into cmd, and enter diskpart. Then I select volume 0 which is the volume. I enter extend. I get a response that the volume selected cannot be extended. I have windows 2003 server sp 2 so KB841650 doesn't work as I have tried both the x64 and x86 versions of the fix. Can anyone tell me how I can get this extension to happen? Thanks!

that hotfix is for logical drives in an extended partition

you can't extend a system volume in windows 2003 using native tools; need to use 3rd party tool

can you recommend a good simple one that is least likely to cause negative side effects on the server? It is my Symantec manager server.

you can use gparted live cd

http://gparted.sourceforge.net/

hate to buy a partition utility when you only need it once
always good to take a full backup before any operation like this
