Movie Maker crashes when running 10 meg or larger file

Movie Maker crashes when running  10 meg or larger file.  We have a Toshiba laptop that is new and when editing videos Movie Maker crashes.
Any ideas would be appreciated.  Maybe we should buy something better?

Points are max because we handle Animal Cruelty cases and need to edit the Video.

Which Windows operating system am I running?

Let me explain a little
Windows RT or Windows 8 on the Toshiba laptop
Like all versions of Windows 8,
Windows RT includes a desktop, but that desktop can only run what’s bundled with Windows RT: Windows File Manager, the Control Panel, and a few other Windows utilities. You can’t install traditional programs on the Windows RT desktop; instead, you're relying solely on apps.

To make Windows RT more attractive, Microsoft tosses in a big perk: free app versions of its popular Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

Although Windows RT lacks the power to run the full desktop, that lack of power brings the longest battery life of any version of Windows 8.

Since the Windows 8 Start screen works best with touchscreens, expect to see Windows RT bundled mostly on touchscreen tablets and touchscreen laptops.

Can I run WMM on a RT version of windows 8?
No, it is part of Windows Essentials and it is only available for a standard version of Windows.
There may be work-alikes in the Store for the RT though.
The RT is limited to what is available in the Store.
Try MS Fixit

Also test with a memtest86+

Run full diagnostics with ubcd

What OS are you running?  WinXP, Vista, Win7...

Does it only crash on this machine and not others?

I would see if there is anything installed you don't need then run a full virus and malware scan.

Once that is done if you stil have the problem you can do a repair install:

Has this ever worked without crashing?  If so, and you have restore points, restore to a point where it did work.

If all else fails I'd backup the data, format the drive, reinstall the OS and copy the data back.

You can also test your memory:

Sorr if this is a lot but I'm trying to hit everything I can think of.

OS is Win 8.  We are about to test on another PC.  I'm also going to test with NERO 10.0

Don't know if it ever worked.  I was just informed today of the issue.

you are exactly correct.  The laptop doesn't have the processor speed or video card power.

Yes sorry to say that, but try these  jrsitman

I just had to add this as I feel for you, and wanted to leave you with something workable
since you mentioned how important it is>we handle Animal Cruelty cases and need to edit the Video.
If Nero 10 doesn't work for you, I found it a bit complex even for my W7 desktop
ArcSoft Showbiz app f it's  free but will do heaps better than those limited video editors offered
ArcSoft Showbiz app for Windows 8/RT
Hope it helps you feel less disappointed with your W8.
Personally I won't be upgrading.
