Movie Maker crashes when running 10 meg or larger file

Movie Maker crashes when running  10 meg or larger file.  We have a Toshiba laptop that is new and when editing videos Movie Maker crashes.
Any ideas would be appreciated.  Maybe we should buy something better?

Points are max because we handle Animal Cruelty cases and need to edit the Video.

Try MS Fixit
http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/

Also test with a memtest86+
http://www.memtest.org/

Run full diagnostics with ubcd
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
What OS are you running?  WinXP, Vista, Win7...

Does it only crash on this machine and not others?

I would see if there is anything installed you don't need then run a full virus and malware scan.

Once that is done if you stil have the problem you can do a repair install:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/startup-repair

or

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/options_to_use_when_a_system_will_not_start.mspx?mfr=true

Has this ever worked without crashing?  If so, and you have restore points, restore to a point where it did work.

If all else fails I'd backup the data, format the drive, reinstall the OS and copy the data back.

You can also test your memory:

http://www.memtest.org/

Sorr if this is a lot but I'm trying to hit everything I can think of.

ASKER

OS is Win 8.  We are about to test on another PC.  I'm also going to test with NERO 10.0

Don't know if it ever worked.  I was just informed today of the issue.

you are exactly correct.  The laptop doesn't have the processor speed or video card power.

Thanks
Yes sorry to say that, but try these  jrsitman

I just had to add this as I feel for you, and wanted to leave you with something workable
since you mentioned how important it is>we handle Animal Cruelty cases and need to edit the Video.
If Nero 10 doesn't work for you, I found it a bit complex even for my W7 desktop
ArcSoft Showbiz app f it's  free but will do heaps better than those limited video editors offered
ArcSoft Showbiz app for Windows 8/RT

Hope it helps you feel less disappointed with your W8.
Personally I won't be upgrading.
Thanks very much for the additional support.
