Without having the make and model of laptop, it's very difficult to say!

However, you CANNOT install a 64-BIT version of Windows onto any laptop that only has a 32-BIT CPU.

Also, unless the laptop has more than 4GB of RAM, there is no benefit to using a 64-BIT version of Windows.

Please right click on My computer, properties.  Is it a 32 bit system or a 64 bit system?

According to the Toshiba web page at http://www.toshiba.co.uk/discontinued-products/satellite-l650-18r/ this laptop probably would have had Windows 7 Home Premium 64-BIT pre-installed, so YES, you should be able to install the 64-BIT version

You can run the windows 7 upgrade advisor tool

http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=20

This report will tell you whether you can or cannot install 64bit version of windows 7.

@fcek You have mentioned 32bit o.s ...did you mean 32bit processor.

32 bit o.s and 32 bit processor are two different things.

Did u run upgrade advisor.

Why does he need to run the upgrade advisor? The laptop originally shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-BIT according to Toshiba!

I think he might have installed 32 bit version of o.s  and wants to install 64bit..

Yes, but the question was - can the laptop take 64-BIT Windows 7, and since it was shipped with 64-BIT Windows 7, running the upgrade advisor isn't necessary.
