Vice Versa Exclusion

I have a user with Vice versa pro 3 on a windows 7 machine. when the vice versa engine runs, it copies the folders but no files inside them. In the VV client, it has no filters for what to exclude and it says with no filters, everyting is included. However, in the comparision, it shows all the folders and the files as excluded. I have looked all over on how to get rid of the exclusions, but cannot find it. How can I get vice versa to not exclude all these files? I have looked in the change profile settings and cannot find where the setting is that excludes all these files.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Couple of things to look at:

In the file menu on the comparison screen for the profile in question, select "View Profile Settings".  See what the profile shows as inclusion and exclusion along with the options and see if any shows up as unexpected.  (If you feel it won't compromise your private info, feel free to paste it in and I'll be happy to look at it).  Also, what method are you using?  (Synchronization, Backup, Replication, etc...).  If you click the X in the lower portion of the comparison window (right next to Refresh Lists) to enable viewing excluded files, does anything look unusual or does anything jump out at you that might give you a clue?

I am using replication-augment target. Nothing in the profile looks odd. when the replication is done, folders are replicated but none of the files in them. I also see a setting to include all subfolders and files. What suprised me was when I did a comparision, all the folders and files that need replicaiton have a red X to the left which I see is for exclusion. I can't send a screen shot because the user is remote and I just got off a remote session where I stared at this for about an hour. What stands out is the amount of excluded files that I did not expect. I don't know how to get rid of the red X. that's what I'm looking for.

I haven't been able to replicate the conditions you're describing without seeing something in the view profile that gives me a clue as to why it was excluded (date filter, file filter, etc)...  I even tinkered around with file permissions and I wasn't able to replicate it.

Did you enable the logging for your profile?  That may also provide a clue as to why files are being excluded...  To enable, go into File -> Change Profile Settings -> Execution.  Enable Logging and give it a file path.  Rerun the comparison and then check the log file to see if it has any additional information...

If you are able to get a screen shot of the View Profile and post it, that may also help.  I recognize the user may be a bit testy about it, but it might help track down the problem.

I duplicated the configuration and ran through several tests, but I'm unable to get any of the source files listed with the excluded X.  Were you able to turn on the logging and see if VV gives any explanation as to why the files were excluded?

Also, just as standard sort of question, what version of VV are you running?

I think I found it. The user did not have inherited permissions on the destination folders. I was able to pull that out of the log file, but for it to be apparent, I had to interpet that. It is working now. thanks for your help. I tried the VV support forum also, but that was next to useless.

Glad you were able to find it.  The log file tends to be a last resort, but I have used it to find some strange things from time to time.
