Kaspersky - Scan external drive

I'm having an issue where, when scanning an external drive Kaspersky will also scan the O/S drive. Can I prevent it doing this, I have a large amount of data on the my O/S drive which means any external scan subsequently takes forever...

More confusingly the path it will give whilst scanning will actually indicate that it is  canning the external when it definitely isn't:-

e.g. K:\Documents and Settings\StuffthatisonmyCDrive\Desktop\takingforever.iso

\notfunny\callmea.cab

Any thoughts?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Thinking if the scan options can be more explicit

In addition to files and directories, the following scan objects can be specified: My email—Outlook data files (.pst and .ost) System Memory—executable files of all running processes are scanned Startup Objects—executable files of the programs started at the system startup Disc Boot Sectors—boot sectors of hard and removable drives System Backup Storage—System Volume Information folders All removable drives—the removable drives connected to the computer at the moment All hard drives—computer hard drives All network drives —all network drives connected to the computer Computer My email and All network drives

Skip files that are scanned for longer than N sec—the timeout is necessary to avoid task hanging when it scans the archives that are deliberately corrupted by criminals for this purpose

Even if it scan shortcut file, it is still important not to skip as they can be traces left by malware intentionally. This has been a trick esp in removable drive.

That aside, I think there is some sort of symbolic links scanning as well - not sure if can exclude but may be pertaining for MacOSX
