Need to save information from a GPT partition

I have to send a laptop back for warranty service and include the hard drive.  The problem is the laptop will not power on and the partition is in GPT.  So when I attach it to another system the partition is unreadable.  How can I easily access this information so I can save it?  The OS is Windows 8.   Thanks in advance.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

A GPT disk should also be readable on other pc's, unless it is encrypted, in which case you would have lost your data anyway (except if you saved your decryption keys elsewhere).

If the windows OS on your other PC can't read the disk, chances are it is corrupt. You could try booting that pc with the Partedmagic LiveCD and then copy the data away, and if that doesn't help, scan it using getataback, and if it sees your files, register it so you can copy them:
