With my old iPad operating system, I hold that button and it shows the applications running in the background. Then I just click the minus symbol and it stops them. Now with the new iOPS 7shows them but all I can do is is open them. I have a whole line of things running and I don't know how to stop them.

on the iPad, you can also use four fingers to swipe up which will bring up the carousel of open apps
