"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If the scanner is visible to windows (or it's listen in your hardwaredevice manager), and it's a more recent product working on USB (or properly installed as a network scanner during the driver install), I would suggest forgetting about the bloated Solution Center and go for http://icopy.sourceforge.net/
It's fast, small, and does everything you want in far fewer clicks than HP's software would do it. Best of all, it's directly saved as (multipage optional) PDF, which is probably just the way you wanted it to!

I agree about the bloatware.

My favoured solution for scanning (and a lot of other things as well) is Irfanview. It will scan to many different file formats, including PDF.

The Scanner is shown in device manage. I can print to it fine.  It also shows up in the HP Solution Center as a printer but when I hit the scan button it errors out. See attached screen shot.

I tried using paint the the "From Scanner and Camera" option is grayed out.

I don't see the attached screenshot. But even without it,  I'm guessing you have to reinstall the printer again, using the full install set (some printers have drivers for only the printer part, mostly used by system administrators, but the full install set will include the network scanner install). After the setup, you should be able to use ANY software mentioned above, just find the one you like most.

I have reinstalled the computer software. I have even reinstalled the os. I can get it to scan if it is connected via USB cable but not through the network. It seems I am missing one small imaging file.
One of the HP Forums has this posted.

"Check whether hpqtra08 and hpqste08 services are running. If the services are running , discontinue the steps in this procedure, and then skip to Solution three in this document."

I find the hpqtra08 but I can't find hpqste08.  Tried looking online for a download and can only find hpqtra08

I still cannot install this software to be able to scan to it from the computers that access it via the network. I can access the GUI interface by typing the IP address in a web browser. i can print to it fine. Just can't use it as a scanner and fax machine from my desktop.  I can fax from the printer but not my desktop.

This is from the time the network scanning drivers weren't that advanced. Whereas with HP or Brother or Canon, you can now have different scanning techniques, in that time, you had to have the HP Toolbox correctly installed, and have it announce to the printer it can scan. It involves using the Scan To button on the printer, which would communicated with the HP Toolbox installed on one or more computers in the network.
So check the Toolbox again, see if you can "push" your computer to the printer, so that your PC is available in the list at the printer after you press the Scan To button.
Not the FULL software package on the HP website is from 2009, so don't expect newer Windows version to work properly! You did use the FULL install, right ?

are you perhaps trying to install this on a 64-bit system ?
then i must say HP does not provide the software for this
you only have a printer driver - no scanning soft
you can always scan from Paint>file>import from scanner

I am finally able to scan from my desktop using HP Laserjet Scan but cannot scan from the printer to my desktop. I have been told by HP that I need to reinstall as Windows OS is causing the problem
