I have installed Windows 7 with XP mode.  I am using the network adapter in XP Mode as my network interface as opposed to a NAT connection.  The XP machine connects to our domain and will start the network applications required, but after a short period of time the network applications close indicating a dropped socket. However, when troubleshooting there does not seem to be an actual network disconnect occurring.

Check the Power Management of the NIC in the VM, and on the physical machine.  Make sure that both have the setting disabled.

That seemed to do the trick for 98 % of the disconnects....I suspect something with the application is causing the other failures.
