Offline Address Book

Hi,

A client of mine is having problems with outlook when connected to exchange 2010 via outlook anywhere

They receive the sync issues

10:29:06 Synchronizer Version 12.0.6672
10:29:06 Synchronizing Mailbox '%username%'
10:29:06 Done
10:29:58 Microsoft Exchange offline address book
10:29:58                  Not downloading Offline address book files.  A server (URL) could not be located.
10:29:58         0X8004010F

I have tried to download the full address book manually but get the same kind of error.

Has anyone seen this before?

thanks
Ryan

While connecting using Outlook Anywhere, hold CTRL button and right click on Outlook icon on task bar, choose test e-mail autoconfiguration.

Key the email address and password. Select ONLY "Use AutoDiscover". Let Outlook do a testing and verify the result for OAB. Make sure Outlook able to get the OAB web service URL

Hi

I have just tried this and I get the error:

Autoconfiguration was unable to determine your settings!

I have checked the Server under > EMC > Server Configuration > Client Access > OAB Properties and the URL is pointing to https://remote.domainname.co.uk/OAB for both internet and external?

Thanks

You haven't got Autodiscover setup correctly.
As this is remote.example.com, I presume this is an SBS server? Have you configured the required DNS records on the public DNS (not internal) ?

Hi Simon

Do I need to get their hosting company to setup the autodiscover.domain.co.uk

Do I just get them to create a CNAME and forward that to remote.domain.co.uk

thanks

Do you have a trusted SSL certificate in place?
If so, does it have autodiscover as one of the additional names?
If not then you need to either
a. get the certificate changes for a UC type that includes autodiscover.
b. configure SRV records for autodiscover http://semb.ee/srv

If you do b, ensure that autodiscover doesn't resolve anywhere.

They have a RapidSSL certificate in place for remote.domain.co.uk, it doesn't have any other additional names within the certificate, just the remote.

As you say above can I get around this by creating a SRV on the hosting side?

Thanks

Hi Simon

I think we have cracked it, I have added the SRV to the host and I appear to be getting no sync issues now and the address book is downloading ok.

Just so I know, is the SRV a workaround to having an SSL cert for Autodiscover?

Will I receive any certificate popups on outlook saying it's can't find the autodiscover certificate?

SRV records are an alternative to the autodiscover A record with associated host name on the SSL certificate. Microsoft introduced it for sites that have lots of domains so they didn't need to include a long list of hosts in their SSL certificate.

As long as autodiscover.example.com doesn't resolve anywhere (either internally or externally)  then it will be fine.
