Why does my pulldown menu go away?

I've got a pulldown menu under my "about" link which you can see at http://www.brucegust.com/rodgers/about.php.

Looks good, except for the fact that it goes away when you get outside the perimeter of "about." In addition, when you go to the index page, a portion of the menu is hidden behind the carousel and, although I've attempted to manipulate the various z-index settings, I keep coming up short.

My stylesheet is attached. Thoughts?

Agree to GaryC123 - remove margin-top:

/* now we're getting jiggy with it by establishing the rules for the actual pulldown menu */
#nav_section ul ul {
display: none;
background: none;
margin-top: 8px;
padding: 0;
width: 225px;
position: absolute;
background-color: #ffffff;
border-style:solid;
border-width: thin;
border-color:#8d8b8b;
line-height:25px;
height:auto;
z-index:1000;
}

Will be:
/* now we're getting jiggy with it by establishing the rules for the actual pulldown menu */
#nav_section ul ul {
display: none;
background: none;
padding: 0;
width: 225px;
position: absolute;
background-color: #ffffff;
border-style:solid;
border-width: thin;
border-color:#8d8b8b;
line-height:25px;
height:auto;
z-index:1000;
}

As for index page hidden issue, change z-index value from "2" to "9999" at #nav_section:
#nav_section {
position:absolute;
padding-top:8px;
margin-left:419px;
width:670px;
height:32px;
z-index:2;
}

Will be:
#nav_section {
position:absolute;
padding-top:8px;
margin-left:419px;
width:670px;
height:32px;
z-index:9999;
}

Attached is a revised CSS file.

Got it!

The reason I had the margin-top adjusted to 8px is because by so doing I was able to bring the pulldown even with that white line that goes across the top. It's purely aesthetic, but is there a way to maintain that distance without compromising the functionality of the menu itself?

Yes, it is possible. Just add same value to "margin-bottom" of #nav_section ul li a:

#nav_section ul li a {
text-decoration: none;
display: block;
padding-right: 0px;
margin-bottom:8px;
}

Revised CSS file attached.
