Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists after changing mail address format.

Hi

We use exchange 2007 and we had two different OUs in our AD  and iam not sure how this was configured by my predecessors.
The users I create in the OU-1 the email address for Paul Jones was pjo@contosso.co.uk
The users I create in the OU-2 the email address for Wilson Thomas was wth@trustco.co.uk

We had all the mailboxes for the OU-1 and OU-2 users in our exchange server.

Now the OU-2 users have completely built their own network with a different subnet  with seperate mail server and have migrated all the mailboxes from our exchange server to their new mail server.

I was told that the email address format for Wilson Thomas had been changed to Wilson.thomas@trustco.co.uk after they migrated to the new server within our premises.

Now if i send an email from my outlook to Wilson.thomas@trustco.co.uk

I get abounced back message:
Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists:

Wilson.thomas@trustco.co.uk

The recipient's e-mail address was not found in the recipient's e-mail system. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please check the e-mail address and try resending this message, or provide the following diagnostic text to your system administrator.

When i send email from my personal hotmail account to Wilson.thomas@trustco.co.uk it sucessfully delivers.

Any ideas why it the mail is getting bounced back when sent from user@contosso.co.uk to user@trustco.co.uk

On my Global Book still I have all the users@trustco.co.uk email address.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

If you still have the Trustco domain email addresses these need to be deleted, ie if the that part of company has been sold off.

If it is still part of the same organisation domain / forest then you will need to setup a trust between the 2 domains and setup email relaying on the CAS servers.

Do you still own trustco.co.uk domain name? Based on your scenario, it seem that they had changed the MX pointing record to the their mail server that a reason why when you send an email from hotmail, they can receive it at their mail server.

If you would like to able to send from contosso.co.uk to trustco.co.uk, you have to tell your exchange server that your exchange server are not authoritative for trustco.co.uk. You do this by deleting trustco.co.uk  as accepted domain.

Once, you are done (wait for 2 hours), you may send them a test email using OWA, the email shall route from your exchange to internet and then pass to the their mail server.

If you are using Outlook to send a test mail, please make sure that you have deleted the autocomplete for Wilson.thomas@trustco.co.uk

Hi Guys

After deleting the email address policy for this domain I have successfully removed the trustco.co.uk from the accepted domain tab.

I will wait for couple of hours and will post the results.

No problem, glad to have helped...

You may also get issues when users have cached email addresses for domain. These will need to be deleted also in outlook
