VMWare ESXi 5 VM: reclaim storage within disk (OS ok, VMWare NOK)

Hi,

Please see screenshot below, if I set the size of the vm (via vcenter) it doesn't resize to 24 GB (thick provisioned). In VCenter I change the size to 24 GB but it doesn't take that (though no error).
I did a storage vmotion (to thin, to thick, doesn't matter) but size doesn't change.

disk
Please advise howto reclaim this storage.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I assume you are trying to shrink the virtual disk, so that the 5.95 GB unformatted disappears?

one of the only supported methods to reclaim storage is to use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone and create a V2V. When creating the V2V through the options you will have control over the new size of the OS Partition and virtual disk.
