Best 10Gig connection between HP 8206/8212 switches

Hi,

Im looking to buy two 8206 or 8212 module based switches but the choice of modules on 10gig is huge with different media types and i don´t really understand what will be the best choise.

I´m going to have this switches with 5m cable´s between and im going to run iSCSI etc on them. I whant to have a reciliant solution so some kinda trunk would be nice if someone trips over the cabel :)

Anyone with experience in this switches and a running solution?

First of all, I would buy Juniper EX switches instead of the HP - but that is your problem :)

If you only need a distance of 5m, then you should consider using DAC cables (direct attached copper), or even 10GBase-T if your other end accepts it.

The DAC cable is a copper cable with SFP+ connectors at each end, which means you do not need fiber patch cables. Instead you just plug the "SFP end" of the cable directly into  the SFP slot of the module.

If you have DAC cables with SFP ends, then you need the "SFP+" type of HP module.

I see HP also have X2 and CX4, which is different type than SFP+. You could check if there are such DAC cables too.
