Certification Clarification

I read that MCITP 2008 Server Administrator cannot be attained any longer....only
 MCSA 2008.

I'm a current holder of MCSE 2003 (i know very old).

Just passed 70-649...few days ago
(Exam 70-649 is an upgrade exam that is a composite of three stand-alone exams: Exams 70-640, 70-642, and 70-643)

MCSA 2008 More Info Here

So If I passed 70-646, will this give me MCSA 2008 (equivalent of MCITP 2008 System Admin)?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You are right, as long as you've passed 70-640, 70-642 and 70-646 you will be awarded MCSA 2008.

Yes, you need to pass 70-646 for MCSA 2008.
Simplify Active Directory Administration

Administration of Active Directory does not have to be hard.  Too often what should be a simple task is made more difficult than it needs to be.The solution?  Hyena from SystemTools Software.  With ease-of-use as well as powerful importing and bulk updating capabilities.

It is probably worth calling MS directly to confirm whether this path is available to you. However, my reading on the upgrade exam leads me to believe you will NOT get an MCSA through your chosen path. On the Microsoft site, each upgrade exam lists what chat certifications it grants credits towards, and certain MCSE exams are listed, but no mention of MCSA. I doubt that was an oversight. I suspect that credit is not granted.

i disagree respectfully with cgaliher.

Exam 70-649 is an upgrade exam that is a composite of three stand-alone exams: Exams 70-640, 70-642, and 70-643.

The 'key word' is 'stand-alone' in other words, -70-640 is the same exam regardless which certification you are aiming for. the same for 70-642 etc

You cannot take 70-640 for MCSA 2008, and that same exam code cannot be credited towards other certification where it is prerequisite......that would not make any sense at all.

Therefore, since 70-649 count towards three exams (70-640, 70-642, and 70-643) whereby the first two exams are requirements for MCSA 2008, passing 70-646 is only required to get  MCSA 2008.

But, like you said good idea to check with Microsoft....i agree on this.

Note, MCITP 2008 SA has been renamed to MCSA 2008
