Citrix Xenapp 6.5 Redundant SQL Servers

Hi

I have a new Xenapp 6.5 farm that I need to have a redundant or auto-fail over SQL server.  The farm is in production.  I haven't done a lot of research yet, but I've heard that there is a built in way in Citrix to set this up without having to use MS Clustering.

If someone could provide an overview of the best way to do this and a link to setting it up I would appreciate it very much.  Thank you.

XenApp doesn't have a builtin mechanism for making SQL redundant.  The XenApp farm is redundant by virtue of having multiple servers, load balancing, etc, though SQL is an individual component that must be made highly available outside of XenApp.

Depending upon which version of SQL you are using Citrix will support SQL clustering, mirroring, or availability groups.  They prefer mirroring over clustering due to quicker failover (per Citrix).

Hi

Thank you for the reply.  I am using SQL 2008 SP2 on a Windows 2008 R2 server.  Is mirroring the recommended option then?

That would be Citrix's recommendation.  Clustering or mirroring will work, though Citrix prefers mirroring.

Since we use only SQL clustering in our environment, we would prefer going with that.  How do I get that set up on a running farm?  Build second server, install SQL, install MS Clustering... then how does Citrix know that there is a redundant SQL server?
