ASP.NET 1.1

In my IIS Manager I have ASP.NET 1.1 Classic along with ASP.NET v4.0…  The other day all applications on this server stopped running on ASP.NET 1.1 stop working.  This server is part of a cluster so I failed/Copied them over and all Apps worked properly.  My question, is there a way to fix ASP.NET 1.1 that would not affect the other ASP.NET version.  Any help apprechated.

ASP.NET 1.1 Classic is a separate "applciation pool" from the rest of the application pools.  Next time, open IIS, open the server tree (the plus sign or cross by the server name); click on Application Pools, look for Classic .NET AppPool, right-click on it, select Stop, right-click on it again then select Start.

You can see how application pools provide exactly the sort of protection you need in this context.

Thanks but I have already tried that.  Stopped, started, recycled but the ASP.NET 1.1 still did not work, it like its broke.

If the application pool reset didn't help your problem, I don't believe the problem is in IIS - I believe it is somewhere in your application.  Are you getting an error report in any of the Windows Event Logs (particularly Application) when this occurs?

No that was the first place I looked, no warning or error from what i could see.  Thats why I was thinking it was broke somehow.  Was thinking of doing a reinstall but before I do I need to make sure it wont affect any of the other asp.net versions - thanks

A reinstall of a version of .NET won't affect any other versions already in place, and won't change any web sites for which you've already set a version of ASP.NET to use.  Reinstall away.

Asked:  I'm having a problem, what do I do about it?
Answered:  You've covered all the basics?
I want to reinstall, will it affect anything else?
Answered: No, it won't.

You did come up with the alternative, but I did verify to you that that alternative would work.  I think a 50-50 split is more in order, and recommend C or B grade (this wasn't rocket science, just knowledge gained by experience)
