SQL2008 Database back up to a Network Drive (NAS)

I am trying to generate SQL backups of databases to a mapped network drive (B:).

SQLServer does not seem to recognize the driver when I go located the drive folders to place the back file to it only shows local drives (C:,E:,D:).

I am sure there is a way to point backups to a network drive.

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

You should use a UNC to the directory to which you want to backup. ex: \\servername\share

Since mapped drives are only created on an interactive logon, if you schedule a backup to a mapped drive, the service account will not have access to it and fail.

FYI..  A: B: are typically designated for old floppy drives - probably not an issue here..  Yes, most floppy drives have gone by the wayside..  One thing to keep in mind on a UNC, do not use an Admin Share e.g. \\servername\e$ as this typically will demand an domain admin at the minimum the admin of the server.   I would use the previous suggestion  of \\servername\share
