SSD Error

Hi,
A Sony VAIO I am troubleshooting has two Samsung MMDPE56GQDXP-MVB 128GB 1.8" SSDs in a RAID 0 configuration.

The BIOS RAID Utility at start up, and the Intel Rapid Storage Technology under Windows 7 both reported an error on one of the drives. No details about the nature of the error, just that the drive was in an error state.

In the Intel RST software I was able to reset the drive's state to normal. This also apparently reset the error in the BIOS RAID utility as it no longer comes up.

Now I am concerned about the health of the drive. Is there a utility that could be used, perhaps from Sony, that would test the drive and maybe offer some more helpful information? I have searched at Sony's site but come up with nothing so far.

Also, any general advice on how to proceed would be appreciated. The owner of the VAIO has experienced some random shutdowns, and unable to find any other indications (memory and other hardware tests, including the drives which came up normal, etc) I am guessing the reported drive error may be related. Thanks.

There is usually a utility for the drive maker to check this type of thing.  I deal a lot with western digital and they have one.  I do not know about samsung drives.

Here is a website to start with

Looking at Samsung's site, I can't even find the model of this drive listed. I think it's too old. 4 Years!

I had the same issue trying to find the same drives.  Are you positive about the numbers on the drive?

Find a file called crystaldiskinfo.  It is freeware and will tell you about health staus etc.

I can see the health status in the BIOS RAID utility and the Intel RST software. I'm looking for a utility to test the drive and provide more detail about errors with the drive. The utilities available from Samsung are all specific to newer model drives.

Yes, I am sure the model number of the SSDs in the VAIO is correct. This model was used in the VAIO 4 years ago when this one was built.

Yes, it did the trick. I attempted to accept your answer, but the mobile version of the site is whacked and it wasn't possible to complete the process on my phone. I'll have to crank up my Apple. Thanks for the help.
