Exchange 2003 sporadic issue with incoming mail not delivering

When mailflow stops flowing to internal users, I notice the following messages in the application event log.

Following client routing node failed to connect to its resvc  C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\store.exe
Following client routing node failed to connect to its resvc  C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe
Following client routing node failed to connect to its resvc  C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\emsmta.exe
Following client routing node failed to connect to its resvc  C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\inetinfo.exe

Looked into this issue and found the following: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841576

Ran the command asked and everything came back ok.

The OS is SBS2003 with SP2

Thanks!

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

Did you verify the issue from the paragraph about running the 3 command lines and receiving the correct message to determine the issue?

Did you run the Exchange setup program with the /reinstall switch?

Have you got an antivirus scanning the exchange server?

If so you should exclude the store and directories around the smtp, logs etc. There is a great document at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823166 which should point you in the correct direction.

Has the machine made a sudden restart without shutting down properly?

Any other clues around the exchange server?

Thanks for posting where you are up to.

The client has since purchased a new server and new version of Exchange.

Rebooting the spam filter fixed the sporadic issue.

Rather than troubleshooting the event logs further, the client went ahead and purchased a new server and newer version of exchange.
