Limit Maintenance Plan logs

I want to limit the total size of my Maintenance Plan logs by eliminating all entries older than 1 year.  (I'm not referring to the optional text files that can duplicate the standard logs.)

Isn't there a simple way to do this through the SQL Server Management Studio GUI?

When I right click on SQL Server logs (Maintenance Plan logs are not part of this), a config window pops up which offers to limit the number of SQL Server logs, but I don't see an equivalent way of limiting the Maintenance Plan logs.

And in any case, this would not allow me to set a maximum age for entries.

What's the simple way of limiting the age of maintenance plan log entries?

I know I can delete log entries older than some date, but I need something automatic.

Thanks in advance.

There is a task for this called History Cleanup task. Open a new Maintenance plan then look in the Toolbox panel and you will see it. Drag in on the designer window and double click on it. There is where you can set up the cleanup jobs and the interval.

Keeping 1 year of history is probably too much. 4 weeks, a month should be enough but is up to you really.
