Exchange 2010 ShadowRedundancy Queues growing

Hey guys,

I am running and Exchange 2010 setup in a DAG.  I have 8 servers.  2 Mail, Hub, CAS & Edge.

One of our edge servers has about 9500 messages backed up in Shadow Queues with the next hops being our hub servers.

Mail is flowing as I can send myself external e-mail messages and get them immediately.

Any idea what would cause shadow copies of e-mails to hang in the edge queue?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Don't worry about Shadow Queue. You can leave it, queues will reduced automatically.
Simon Butler (Sembee)ConsultantCommented:
Shadow queues are copies of messages that are being delivered to another server, which Exchange holds until the message delivery is confirmed.
A small build up isn't unusual, but the numbers you are seeing (unless that is your expected mail flow in less than hour) is unusual.

The problems are usually around AV scanning something it shouldn't do, something else scanning the SMTP traffic or a suspect subscription to the Edge server.
