Joomla backup

All of a sudden our website disappeared.  Page not found.

Turns out that server was upgraded and taken out of commission.

We were given a 500MB tar.gz file... a backup?

I extracted the gz and then the tar and am looking at many directories and files within those directories.

I understand that Joomla is a database thing.

I need to rebuild in a non-Joomla environment... any idea how I could begin by not re-creating everything all over again?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hosting server is gone... how can I tell if I have the database?

Is this a VPS or shared hosting, I presume you mean you host is still active and it was just the server taken out of use.

It was noticed that our website was down... after a few days we received this tar.gz file and an "oops" email.

Trying to put the site back together hacking this gz file.

But is this a VPS or shared hosting or are you trying to move to a new host (which I definitely would)

Sheldon LivingstonConsultantAuthor Commented:
I have no idea if this is a VPS or shared hosting.
We are trying to rebuild the site... not in Joomla.
0
GaryCommented:
If you don't know if its a VPS or what then it is probably shared hosting
Are you still with your current host?  If so tell them to fix the site - they screwed up so the least they can do is restore your site.

If its a new host then they may be able to use the zipped file to set up your site.
This will depend on what is in the zip - is it just a zip of your files with the db packed in?
Are the db files the full data folders?
Can you attach a screenshot of the files in the zip.

Still haven't said if you are moving to a new host or anything?
0
Sheldon LivingstonConsultantAuthor Commented:
We wish to rebuild the site with a different host NOT using Joomla anymore.
0
GaryCommented:
But all your code and database is based on Joomla - you cannot rebuild it differently
You would have to start from scratch
If you are not wanting to use Joomla then what are you going to use?
There are solutions to convert to WordPress for example.

Sheldon LivingstonConsultantAuthor Commented:
WordPress would be perfect... we just don't want to resurrect the site in Joomla to convert...
0
GaryCommented:
I would resurrect the site and make sure it is working correctly first before trying to convert it.

The first thing to do would be upload all your files/folders to the new host
Under MySQL in your zip can you tell me what files/folders are there - its not clear how they have saved the db. If they have just backed up the whole MySQL folder then you should have a data folder with files like ib_logfile0 in it.

Within the MySQL folder are:

horde.sql
roundcube.sql
stjude_j15.create
stjude_j15.sql

Below is some of the code from stjude_j15.sql

Are these four files the ones to upload to the new WP host?  Where on the host do I load them?
0
GaryCommented:
Does that sql contain any of these tables http://docs.joomla.org/J1.5:Database_structure

If not then its not the right one,
0
Sheldon LivingstonConsultantAuthor Commented:
I just spot checked four of them and they are there... I think it is the right one.

Good
So setup your database and import that sql.
Then when you have installed WP you can look at the various plugins to do the convertion.
