I just set up a Xerox 6505 printer to my Mac 10.8.5 but prints are being sent (via a USB connection) as faxes and not prints, filling the 6505 memory and giving error code 017-970

How do I resolve this?

What types of documents are you trying to print?

From which applications are you issuing the print requests?

From the printer's front panel, try different settings under System Menus (press the System button) > Admin Menu > USB Setup > Adobe Protocol.

I found the problem, the printer had been installed as a LAN fax, I held down the Option key whilst deleting it and re added it as a printer
