Sharepoint DavWWWRoot Folders

We have a SBS 2011 Server with Sharepoint 2010.  All users connect to it as a mapped drive \\server\davwwwroot .  Previously a document library was created for top level folders. A user has recently began creating folders through the mapped drive without creating a document library.  These folders cannot be seen in all site content, and cannot be deleted (even as site admin).  How can we get rid of these folders without restoring the site from a backup?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

you perhaps might try to use Sharepoint Designer, connect to the root site and then use "All files" on the left navigation in SPD to delete these folders.
