Wifi AP scan disrupting USB 3.0 data

I have a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows 7 with an internal Atheros AR9287 wifi adapter.  When transferring a significant amount of data via a USB 3.0 port (uncompressed HDMI HD video), the transfer is disrupted every time the wifi adapter performs an automatic AP scan.  I've verified this by adjusting the scan period in the advanced driver options, which also adjusts the disruptions to the exact same period.

I'm wondering if there exists a way to disable the automatic scan (registry tricks, perhaps)? BTW, attempts to set the scan period to zero were rejected.  Any other ideas are also welcome.

Currently I'm using a USB wifi adapter as a workaround.  I think there's some irony there.

This appears to be a common problem with other devices too...

Solved, using the driver package found here:

The new driver has an adjustable setting called "Background Scan".  Turning it off solves the problem.
