What does the  event logs say?

Without being able to login, resource lookups is required, is the system indicating any hardware failures? Depending on your manufacturer/model, you might be able to access using LOM, DRAC, etc.
When the system reboots, do you see bootup notices, I.e. Drives/logical volumes.  Get into controllers to see what is going on.

Other than sophos, is the system also an exchange server? The outgoing queue might be saturated with bounce back messages that are hitting/increasing the load on the system.

The inability of f8/f12 may point to a connection issue between the KVM keyboard and the system! plug a keyboard directly into the system and see if that gets past the keyboard issue.

You need to run sfc /scannow.

Since this is not a DC a repair install might be the last resort.

The difficulty is trying to identify the DLL that is causing the issue.
clear out c:\windows\prefetch of *.pf files.

what if any changes were made, hardware, drivers update/install?

You are unable to get into F8/BIOS Even with a keyboard directly connected to the server?

I am trying to connect that directly.

Since it a member server you should be able to connect to it via remote desktop from another server. With the following command. MSTSC /admin <server name> when you reboot it to get some insight on what happing to the machine.

if the keyboard is not working try a different brand and a different type. Ex. dell ps2 keyboard. try Microsoft usb keyboard.

Also if your are using a wireless keyboard then change it for a usb wired keyboard.
