Windows Server 2012 & 2008

Dear All,

We have 3 physical servers here in our organization. Visualized all the servers. Each physical servers are containing five virtual servers in it.

there is no internet connection in the servers. only weekly we update the servers by providing different ip range in it.

for internal access the servers are having 192.128.10.  ip .
for internet we are giving  192.168.100. .  after giving this IP internet connection is there in the servers. i can browse the sites. but i am unable to update the windows. always shows  error. even i added the Microsoft site in the trusted sites but same issues

Error File attached.

So what i do sometimes i disable the 192.168.10. ip range but still the same problem.

Here the servers are windows server 2012 & Server 2008

JCT

Did you try opeing microsoft websites?
Did you try tracing the route and check where it is stopping?

I run the above mentioned command . attached is the result.

It is reaching upto 192.168.6.1

You will have to check your VM configuration as it is not going after 192.168.6.1

Good Morning Experts,

Please help me in resolving this issue

It all comes down to the default gateway. Instead of changing subnets why don't you just block Internet on the main subnet and then Allow it when you want to do updates?
If you want to do the way you have it now, change the default gateway to the one with Internet.

i did'nt understand . Can you please explain how to do that.

so do i need to change only the gateway. If yes then do  i need  to restart the server & enter the settings .

presently there are two network adapters in all the virtual servers.

192.168.100.        is the internal ip & the default gateway is 192.168.100.1(no internet )

internet ip is 192.168.1.   & the gateway for this is 192.168.1.1

so do i need to enter the internet gateway i.e. 192.168.1.1

Please guide.

JCT
Yes. The gateway is where traffic outside your known subnets and routes goes, like the Internet.

Can i ask one more question.  just to clarify if there was gateway issue i was accessing all the websites except Microsoft without any issues. not able to update also.

just for clarification only.

JCT
I believe if the computer tried to access Microsoft before the ip with the Internet was added it can "remember" that bad route.

I believe the ESXI server ip is 192.168.100.10 if i give the default ip 192.168.1.1 will it accept.

Waiting for your reply

Dear All,

I suspect you will have to call in a paid professional JCT. I've been following your question for a while now and I have to say I am confused. I have seen no less than four subnets mentioned. The topology is quite odd. I don't understand why things are being implemented the way they are as it introduces a risk that some roles (SQL in particular) would not like. And to top it off, it is built on a VMware implementation that you have stated you did not set up, and are not sure how to manage.

If you can't understand your own environment, I doubt anybody in EE can help you manage it. Hiring a paid professional as a consultant for a few hours to discuss your environment, document it, and make necessary changes to make the network manageable would quickly pay for itself. There is *no* lost revenue in taking that step and I think it is what you will have to do being nobody here has been able to help.
