I  have windows xp laptop

it shuts down on its own every five minutes after booting into OS.

I cleaned the fan with dust destroyer. so my processor won't heat up

but it still shuts down.

Boot up your laptop with a Linux 'LIVE' CD.  If it still shuts down, its not Windows XP or your Hard Drive's fault, but a physical issue with the computer.

If it doesn't shut down, you're looking at either the HDD or Windows XP.

Does it do the same in safe mode?
Check the eventlog for shutdown reason
Install http://openhardwaremonitor.org/ to monitor temperatures
Boot the system in safe mode and see it still shuts down.
check in the bios if the cpu temperature is not too high
or install speedfan to monitor the temps : http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

can it be "I cleaned the fan with dust destroyer" the destroyer did not clean well?  and what do you mean with that destroyer?
also - for cleaning laptops, not only the fan must be clean, but also the vents

best is to open thelaptop, and manually clean it out
Dear , Can you Open the Bios mean setup open and see the computer is restart in same Time Duration.if the restart it s means your Hard Ware Issue if not IT S means you window or Software Issue
