ipad iphone new email notification with push email

I have been wondering why mail service in ipad not working as I expected. new email notification doesn't pop at all, but I have to open mail, then it seems like fetching emails even though push is on.
I have seen lots of posts online people having problem with email notification not working or slow email sync from early ios to recent. So, I guess, Apple ios is just like that, not friendly with push?

You need to go to Settings / Notfocations / Email / <account> / enable options there. Push only works with iCloud and Exchange. If you want more folders then Inbox to be forwarded to notification center, you can select these folders in the advanced settings of that mail account.

Just found this recent article, Gmail requires gmail app to be added to notification center, no push support for Apple.

Does anyone Apple friendly email works well with notification?

Also anyone knows how to add application to Notification Center so that I can enable it? The app I'm trying to, is not listed in notification center, looks like it doesn't support it. I wonder if there's any 3rd party app enables any app to be added to the list.

I ended up pushing our software vendor to integrate ipad notification center.
