MVC SQL Error Message To View?

I would like to send the SQL error message back to the View. I've tried both ViewBag and ViewData and no message shows on the View. Unsure what I'm doing wrong.

[View for _Delete]
@ViewData["sqlerror"]

@Html.ActionLink("Delete", "_Delete", "Category", null, new { id="DeleteSub" })

Open in new window

[Actions]
        public ActionResult _Delete()
        {
            ViewBag.CategoryID = new SelectList(context.CategoryRefs, "CategoryID", "Name");

            return View();
        }

        public ActionResult Delete(Guid catId)
        {
                try
                {
                }
                catch (Exception ex)
                {
                    ViewData["sqlerror"] = ex.Message;
                }

                return RedirectToAction("_Delete");
         }

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Does it ever go into the catch?

Ok, i assume this is a minified version of your code...

ViewData is to be used only if you are going to return the view within the Action. If you redirect, as you do, then it is lost.

TempData on the other hand will survive the redirection, so try using this instead.
