I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Try a newer version, I believe it is up to 7 now.  Seems to work in 6, I have not upgraded to 7 yet myself.

That is how SCP works.  You have to power off the machine.

Actually I might have misspoken when I went to the web site it said 3.03, but when I go to the free download here, it says Whats new in v7??
http://www.veeam.com/virtual-machine-backup-solution-free.html
So you may already have version 7 or is it 3.03, confusing yes?

I use the free version, so it is just a download and they ask if you want a 30 day trial to the paid version.  I have considered that, but so far have not worked with it enough to do so.  Backing up my data and system states to DPM 2007 seems to cover everything.  Just using Veeam as extra insurance.

the version is VEEAM BACKUP AND FASTSCP
is this version dont support backup when the machine is powered on ?

Nick RhodeIT DirectorCommented:
VeeamSCP is a free utility that they developed before their actual product.  You would have to purchase veeam backup and replication or do the workaround which might work still today which involves creating a snapshot of the vm, use scp on the snapshot, once the process is done, remove the snapshot etc.

Veeam versionThis is the same version we are using.
What version of ESXi?  that may be determinant.  Ours is 4.1, getting ready to upgrade and that is why this backup.
A co-worker copy 3 W2K8 servers Sunday while they were on. Here is how he did it:

"I copied the vmx and vmxf files first, then added “beforesnapshot” to the end of the vmx and vmxf files that were copied to the usb drive, did a snapshot, and then copied the flat files, the vmx, and vmxf files again."

Hope that helps

As explained earlier you would have to purchase Veeam Backup and Replication to do this or use the cheater method (technically thats what veeam does to backup in the paid version).
