Split DNS for VM and Lync

Is there a way to set my DNS (MS 2008 r2) server at a remote site to allow their local users to talk to my Lync via Public IP and still keep all other users using the internal private Ip for Lync. All users are VM clients as well.

If split DNS is an option then how do I do this in detail. create a new zone, select Primary, then what?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

No. Because of standards-based protocols (not invented or created by Microsoft), you must use an edge server if you want Lync client applications to connect to your Lync topology over the public internet network. As such, split DNS is no longer required since the edge server and its requirements will have their own DNS records.
