IPHONE not restoring

User has IPHONE 4s it was backed up to cloud prior to IOS 7 install.  User's phone is in recovery mode.  When I try to restore via ITUNES I'm getting error 29?  Nothing clear about that.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I had one of two iPhone 4s upgrades go bad when upgrading to IOS7.  Try this:

Turn the iPhone OFF and the computer OFF. Restart both, start iTunes and see if the restore can proceed.  Does this work?

If not, you may have to do a hard reset of the iPhone back to factory specs and restore as best you can.

how do you do a hard reset?  Right now it's showing the globe and the itunes cable

On the iPhone, Settings, General, Reset down at the bottom, and choose your option. Erase all Contents and Settings is a hard reset.

Can't do that because I can't get to the actual OS.  It's only showing the Globe and the IPHONE cable.

One other way is to press the Home and Sleep/Wake button (on top) at the same time for at least 10 seconds. This should restart the phone back to the beginning.

Here is an Oputs Support Article that includes these instructions farther down. It is worth a read.

Probably because of the first error. Did you try the hardware reset I suggested?

YEs and it's a different phone too.  There was a hardware issue with that phone.

I have updated two iPhone 4s machines to IOS 7. One was smooth and one had to be recovered. But once recovered, it went well. Both are done.

If you did a HARD Reset and that reset was successful and the iPhone landed at IOS 5, then you may need to install IOS 6 before moving on to IOS 7. I do not know this for sure.

Otherwise this phone may also have a hardware problem. I know 2 hardware problems sounds a bit much.

I hope not as well. I happen to live a (long, 3/4 hour) walk from the Apple store. When I can not resolve a problem (iPhone fell in the water with me), I go to the Apple store.

Can you get to an Apple Store?

OK here's the last with this phone. It finally upgraded it too a few hours to come back but it finally did and all is well. The 1st phone was hardware but the 2nd phone I'm not sure what happened.  I just decided to let it sit for a few hours and it came back.  thanks for all your help.
