iscsi between synology and esxi

I have looked at several online guides on how to do this, but I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.  I have configured the iscsi target on the synology, but I can't get esxi to see it.  Here are some tidbits that I have tried and accomplished.

I can connect the esxi to NFS on the synology so esxi can see the synology.
I can connect my windows 7 machine to the iscsi target using the built in windows 7 iscsi target.

This is what I am doing to try and add the iscsi to esxi.  I click add storage and then in the name / identifier I have tried the synology's ip, as well as the iqn, but nothing comes up.  Am I missing any steps?

I am a complete novice to all this iscsi stuff so it may be something silly.

Any help appreciated!

Please enable the iSNS on the synology box.

When you have added the storage, do you see any LUNs, and if you click Add Storage can you create a datastore?
