Converting a SQL Server 2000 file to 2012

As the title says, unfortunately it seems that there is not direct upgrade path.

http://blogs.technet.com/b/mdegre/archive/2012/06/15/migration-sql-server-2000-to-sql-server-2012.aspx

I no longer have a copy of SQL Server 2000 or 2005  to convert the file :(

Is there any open source tool that could help ?

Any ideas ?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

To be honest, it's probably going to be easiest to just get the trial version of SQL Server 2008 R2, restore there, take a backup from there and then restore on 2012.

edit:  unless, of course, you are lucky enough to have one of the 2 versions with no upgrade path via a 2008/2008r2 instance (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393(v=sql.105).aspx)

When you say it doesn't appear in 2012, how do you mean?  As in you can't see the .bak backup file from 2012 when you try to restore it?

I managed it using attach after changing the Compatibility Level in R2.
